Chocolate Therapy (Preview)
by Amy Peterson
I’m sure many of you are aware of the health benefits of eating chocolate, but what about the benefits of wearing it? Many spas have introduced chocolate treatments over the past few years, and their patrons are benefiting from this chocolate infusion. Treatments tend to range from $40 to $200 and beyond, but you don’t have to spend tall dollars to get the same benefits.
I will teach you how to make recipes from ingredients you probably already have in your pantry… simple things like oatmeal and honey. Are you a mojito fan? Then you probably have another key ingredient in the kitchen already as well – turbinado sugar, or sugar in the raw. Once you learn both the benefits of chocolate treatments, and just how easy it is for you to create your own, you’ll be enjoying at-home spa treatments in no time at all.
First off, let’s answer the key question here – how can chocolate possibly make my skin look better? Here are some facts that will thrill you.
Cocoa contains antioxidants, which prevent free radicals from damaging your skin and also protect skin elasticity. Cocoa butter naturally softens the skin, especially during those dry winter months, and it’s proven to smooth out stretch marks. It also contains caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant that can increase circulation and help give your skin a nice, healthy light, plus it can improve skin’s hydration and complexion.1 These benefits alone are reason enough to slap on some cocoa, but we’re actually just getting started.
Let’s add some other beneficial ingredients to these masks and scrubs. Your skin will simply glow by adding just two or three other ingredients, especially if you make this “chocolate therapy” part of your daily or weekly beauty routine…

Amy’s Favorite chocolate Shower Scrub is included free below. The other three at-home spa recipes are exclusively found in the December 2016 Issue.
AMY’S FAVORITE CHOCOLATE SHOWER SCRUB
1 c. cocoa
½ c. honey
½ c. sugar in the raw
½ c. olive oil
Mix all ingredients together and put in a plastic container with lid to keep in your shower.
To use, simply take a small amount and massage everywhere.
My experience with this scrub is that you will need to hose down your shower afterwards because it will look like you threw a mug of hot chocolate in there. The benefits are worth the mess though.
Benefits: Antioxidant, removes dead skin cells, moisturizes
